Queen's Speech

This years Queen’s Speech had little in the way of employment law initiatives. The Modern Slavery Bill will make it mandatory for companies with an annual turnover of £36 million or more to publish an annual statement on the government's website outlining the steps they are taking to prevent modern slavery and also introduces fines for companies that don’t report.

The long-awaited Employment Bill, which is expected to expand flexible work provisions and allow for a period of unpaid “carers leave”, did not feature and would so would appear to have been shelved, at least in the short-term.
