New Minimum Wages Rates

 

Employers who have not already prepared should start budgeting for the latest increase to the national living and minimum wage rates. With effect from 1 April 2019 the national living wage, for those workers aged 25 and over, will increase from £7.83 to £8.21. A full break down of the existing and new rates is provided below.

 

National Living Wage: Workers aged over 25

Current - £7.83

1 April 2019 -  £8.21

 

Standard adult rate: Workers aged between 21 and 24

Current - £7.38

1 April 2019 - £7.70

 

Youth development rate: Workers aged 18–20

Current - £5.90

1 April 2019 - £6.15

 

Workers aged 16–17

Current - £4.20

1 April 2019 - £4.35

 

Apprentices who are 16–18 years old or aged 19 or over but in the first 12 months of the apprenticeship

Current - £3.70

1 April 2019 - £3.90

 

Apprentices aged 19 and over and not in their first year as an apprentice will qualify for the standard adult rate or youth development rate, depending on age.
