Guidance on religion or belief discrimination

Acas has launched new Guidance on Religion and Belief to help prevent discrimination at work and provides a grounding in how to reduce the chance of religion or belief discrimination happening in the workplace, how it might still occur and how it should be dealt with if it does happen.

While employers and employees can be liable for their own acts of discrimination, employers can also be liable for their employees’ acts. This guide encourages employers to make sure their workplaces are ‘inclusive’.

It also includes guidance on:

- leave, breaks and time away from work for reasons of religion or belief

- dress coded and appearance

- use of any prayer or multi-faith space or room, and

- being excused certain tasks because of religion or belief.
